So the biggest event of the Summer and what some great buzz has been leading to, so how did it go:
1. WWE Intercontinental Championship
Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler (c)
A methodical match to start the pay-per-view in which both men wore eachother down with power moves and submission holds, then the pace gained steam and things were going to get really good, well were, until the Nexus got involved and ruined the contest so we got half a match on an already quite concise card, why? Just so Nexus had a microphone moment. Still the event has chance to pick up. 2/5
2. WWE Divas Championship
Alicia Fox (c) vs. Melina
This was not a bad contest but a very forgettable one and one or two botches didn't help, Alicia Fox is developing but not quite there yet. Melina is probably the best female wrestler that the WWE currently has and watching her win was good but the match was forgettable and the aftermath even took away the happiness of the end result. Dissapointing 2/5
3. 3-on-1 Handicap match
The Straight Edge Society (Punk, Gallows, Mercuray) vs. The Big Show
This initially could have been great fun with a mixture of styles and an uphill battle theme to the preceedings. Unfortunately The Big Show dominated most of the match and when the S.E.S got moves in they did not do much. The rather one-sidedness of the match made the S.E.S look rather weak and unthreatening which made this a bit of a dissapointing match and it was rather slow as well. 2/5
4. WWE Championship
Sheamus (c) vs. Randy Orton
Thus far the event has been a tad dissapointing, although from here on the matches get good, Randy Orton and Sheamus similar to Ziggler and Kingston started slow. Wearing one another down in a solid wrestling exchange. However things got quicker building to a good and exciting climax, where both men at any time could win. Then they killed the momentum with a really anti-climatic ending which made the prior 18 plus minutes pretty wasted. Still not a bad match by any means, just a dissapointing finish. 3/5
5. WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Kane (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
The first really good match of the night, both men went back and forth with Kane's power and Mysterio's speed gelling well together in the ring. Their rivalry had been enjoyable and have helped lead to Kane's current rivalry with The Undertaker. This was a great title match with atmosphere and entertainment and a nice finish, Kane is a great champion. The aftermath was fantastic and crowd-pleasing and the fact Kane got the better of the situation was a welcome change and really helped establish him as a threatening monsterous champion, like the title match itself. Kane has not looked as good as he is now in years. 4/5
6. 7-On-7 Elimination Tag
The Nexus (Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, David Otunga, Heath Slater, Skip Sheffield, Michael Tarver and Darren Young) vs. Team WWE (John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho, R-Truth, John Morrison, Bret 'The Hitman' Hart and Daniel Bryan)
Originally The Miz was to fill the 7th spot and cut a quite good promo earlier, however it was the returning Daniel Bryan who filled it instead, to an enormous crowd reaction. The match then commnced and what a main event every man had a chance to shine. This was a superb payoff to what has been a fantastically hyped rivalry. Bret Hart was way better in ring than I thought he would be, impressive really. Barrett was an excellent leader and a great heel, the young guns of Nexus kept up with veterens Edge and Jericho even and that's not easy to do. Bryan was great here and I loved hearing the commentary Cole was so annoyed, hillarious. True the ending was typically Cena-esque but that did not stop what was an amazing conclusion to what luckily became an O.K event. 5/5
So Summerslam delivered on its two most hyped matches and delivered a good WWE Championship match as well, unfortunately the preliminary matches were either dull, spoiled or forgettable. Still Summerslam gets good and I mean very good towards the end but it is really a 3 match Pay-Per-View. 3/5
I was thinking to myself if they include a second disc i'll buy this no matter what the ppv card.
The raw and smackdown shows were the main reason i bought the rumble blu ray and the same case here. The event is looking quite good of course waiting to see what happens with nexus
